The goal of this site is to provide a visitor with basic information, and directions allowing participation in and communication with our communitiesí municipal court.  If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, please contact the court by email, phone (262) 569-0920, fax (262) 569-0771, by regular mail, or in person at 174 East Wisconsin Avenue, Oconomowoc, WI 53066.  Please keep in mind that neither the Court nor any court official can provide individual legal advice.

The Lake Country Municipal Court was formed in 1988 as the first shared multi-jurisdictional municipal court in Wisconsin.  The founding member communities are: City of Oconomowoc, Towns of Merton, Oconomowoc and Summit, and Villages of Chenequa, Hartland, Lac La Belle, Nashotah and Oconomowoc Lake.  The Village of Dousman joined in 1999, followed by the Town of Lisbon in 2000, the Village of Sussex in 2002, the Town of Delafield in 2004, and the Village of Merton in 2007. The court serves, to a large extent, the northern and western portions of Waukesha County, Jefferson County communities of the Town of Ixonia (2004) and  Village of Sullivan (2009), and the Town of Erin (2005) in Washington County.

In Wisconsin, municipal courts have jurisdiction over ordinance violations. In 2011, the Lake Country Municipal Court handled approximately 13,500-14,000 citations.  In 2012, we expect to handle approximately 14,000 citations.  As a general rule, two-thirds of this caseload consists of traffic offenses, and one-third non-traffic and juvenile matters.  As the population of the communities we serve continues to grow, the caseload handled by this court will, in all likelihood, grow accordingly.

The mission of the Lake Country Municipal Court is to handle the municipal ordinance case load of our participating communities in a fair and efficient manner.  Our court believes that accomplishing this goal results in greater respect for and understanding of our system of law by the citizens who appear in this court.

Thank you for visiting the Lake Country Municipal Courtís web site. It is a privilege and honor to provide this service to our communities.  It is my hope that the information provided will be helpful and of assistance.
