LAKE COUNTRY MUNICIPAL COURT

The goal of this site is to provide the user with basic information, directions and the ability to participate in and/or communicate with our communities’ municipal court. If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, please contact the court by email, phone (262) 569-0920, fax (262) 569-0771, by regular mail, or in person at 174 East Wisconsin Avenue, Oconomowoc, WI 53066. Please keep in mind that no Court or court official can provide individual legal advice.
The
Lake Country Municipal Court was formed in 1988 as the first shared
multi-jurisdictional municipal court in Wisconsin. It initially consisted
of the following nine members: City of Oconomowoc, Towns of Merton, Oconomowoc
and Summit, and Villages of Chenequa, Hartland, Lac La Belle, Nashotah and
Oconomowoc Lake. The Village of Dousman joined in 1999, followed by the
Town of Lisbon in 2001, the Village of Sussex in 2002, the Town of Delafield in
2004, and the Village of Merton in 2007. The court serves, to a large extent,
the northern and western portions of Waukesha County, as well as the Town of
Ixonia (2004) in Jefferson County and the Town of Erin (2005) in Washington
County.
The
municipal court deals only with ordinance violations. In the year 2007, the Lake
Country Municipal Court will handle approximately 14,000+ citations. In
2008, we expect to handle approximately 16,000 citations. Approximately
two-thirds of this caseload consists of traffic offenses, and one-third
non-traffic and juvenile matters. As population continues to grow, the
caseload handled by this court will, in all likelihood, grow accordingly.
It
is the mission of the Lake Country Municipal Court that municipal ordinance
violation needs and requirements of the participating communities be handled in
a fair and efficient manner. Our court believes that accomplishing this
goal results in greater respect for our system of law by the citizens who appear
in this court.
Thank
you for visiting the Lake Country Municipal Court’s web site. It is a
privilege and honor to provide this service to our communities. It is my
hope that the information provided will assist you in navigating Wisconsin’s
municipal court system.
Very
truly yours,
Judge
